Counseling for Adolescents
TC&W meets with clients ages 11 and up, with the rare younger exception. Adolescents must learn how to balance a wide range of emotions and concerns. Being a pre-teen (ages 11-13) and teenager (ages 14-19) is usually associated as a time full of fun, curiosity, freedom from major responsibilities, and exploration. Along with the positive experiences, adolescents also face an array of challenges and difficult decisions on an almost daily basis.
During the teenage years, adolescents are exposed to overwhelming internal and external struggles. They are expected to cope with hormonal changes, social and parental forces, work and school pressures, and so on. Many teenagers feel misunderstood.
Often, these are the issues adolescents may face:
- Stress
- Low self-esteem
- Bullying
- Uncertainty about the future
- Low energy/mood
- Difficulty managing intense emotions
- Divorce and other changes within the family structure
- Loss of a parent
- Sexual/Gender identity
- Peer pressure and competition
- Relationship issues
- Time management
- Performance anxiety
If this sounds like you or your child, we invite you to consider attending counseling. Therapy provides a supportive, objective, and confidential atmosphere where teens can discuss issues that they may not feel comfortable discussing with their family or friends. Therapy can also help adolescents feel supported while learning new coping skills in order to thrive during a particularly challenging time.
